Deep in the rainforests of the Indian state of Meghalaya, bridges are not built, they’re grown. For more than 500 years locals have guided roots and vines from the native Ficus Elastica (rubber tree) across rivers, using hollowed out trees to create root guidance systems. When the roots and vines reach the opposite bank they are allowed to take root. Some of the bridges are over 100 feet long and can support the weight of 50 people.

did any of you guys watch human planet? it was really good and they featured these people who make the bridges!

Holy crap. Put this on my bucket list.

Now this, is awesome.

Royale Deluxe, France.  It moves, so it’s a vehicle.  This is sort of what I imagine vehicles would look like if we’d stop squabbling and devote ourselves to improving the world.  It’s in France, so it demonstrates the kind of thing that happens when you fund and appreciate art.  By the way, yes his trunk squirts water. I remember seeing a Royale Deluxe exhibition at Le Grand Palais a few years ago, it was soooo coooool!

Absolutely incredible.

are you fucking shitting me? This is the tits. Elephant ala ewoks.

LEAK. New Patrick Stump - Explode from Soul Punk

Who wants to give me 1.39 million?

Who’s ready to ‘surge into the red zone’? It shouldn’t come as any surprise that the price has changed on thisBucktown house.

After all, Redfin charts no fewer than 80 price changes since the home hit the market about three years ago.

The place actually went under contract in November, but the sale apparently fell through, and it returned to the market last week, reduced by another $325,000.

This house ran away with the Most Hideous award at the 2010 Curbed Awards, mainly because of that dungeon lair.

But the place isn’t all Medieval Times; the upstairs is modern, minimal and deeeluxe (see this video for a full tour.) It’s now priced at $1.39 million — down from $2.64 million in 2008.

Above, this photo just posted to the Guatemalan Government’s Flickr feed shows a massive, spontaneous sinkhole (“hundimiento”) that appeared today in Zone 2 of Guatemala City, after overwhelming saturation of rains from tropical storm Agatha. This is not the work of Photoshop, sadly: these happen from time to time during major storms in part because of unstable geology.
